I am Tanja van der Kooij, founder of Aruna Yoga Maastricht, born in Bilthoven, the Netherlands, in 1975.
I am a musician; I studied oboe on the Conservatories of The Hague, Amsterdam and Karlsruhe (DE).
I played in the dutch National Youth Orchestra and in the European Union Youth Orchestra. From 1997-2017 I had a job as oboe player with the ‘philharmonie zuidnederland’ (formerly the Limburg Symphony Orchestra).
I quit the job in the orchestra to extend and concentrate more on Aruna Maastricht.
I started doing yoga while studying in Amsterdam.
Alongside my job as a performing musician I attended from 2006-2009 the hatha yoga teacher training in Amsterdam at the ‘Yoga Academie Nederland’.
I started teaching yoga in 2009.
In 2017, I attended the 200 hours Vinyasa Teacher Training at ‘De Nieuwe Yogaschool’ with Johan Noorloos.
I am accredited teacher with ‘Yoga Alliance’ and ‘Vereniging Yogadocenten Nederland’.
In 2017 I completed the mindfulness teacher training with SeeTrue in Maastricht.
Yoga is very important for me, and I enjoy to bring this to others!
For the last two years I dived into the realms of yoga and its’ philosophy. For every single of those days to find a deeper, more connected, calmer version of myself, constantly unfolding more. Such evolving does not come easy, it takes time, energy & effort. But let me tell you, it is so much worth it. Now, there is nothing left but to create opportunities for others to begin their own trajectory. To access the space within. To lend you the ability to explore for yourself the powers of movement, the sight within, your breath, daily exercise, concentration and contemplation.
We will do Hatha/Vinyasa Classes of which the latter is an energetic flow of movement connected with your breath. In Hatha sequences we explore the in depth encounter with more complex poses and the channeling of energy. We will meditate and do breathing exercises. We will do guided relaxations. We will fall a lot. We will stand up a lot. We will smile a lot.
And don’t forget, Yoga is for Everyone. I am there to guide you & we will make you grow. Thats my promise to you.
Let the Process Begin!
Yoga is for me like I received the letter to Hogwarts.
To this magical, crazy world, full of wonders, full of mindfulness, relaxation and silence.
There is so much to learn, there is so much to explore. Everyday on a new way.
Most of it, it's a way to explore yourself, exploring that all you need is already inside of you.
After my apprenticeship in marketing-communication in Düsseldorf I travelled for seven month through Asia and absolved a Yoga alliance certified Hatha-Vinyasa yoga teacher training. In my further travels I teached and joined workshops whenever I could and got more experience in teaching Vinyasa but also Yin and Yoga Therapy.
At the moment I am studying psychology at the university in Maastricht, which I can combine perfectly with the yoga world.
My goal is to bring people back to themselves, to show them that all they need is inside of them, we just need to relearn to listen.
Yoga creates the perfect frame for that.
Let's flow and grow together!
Hoi, hello and namasté!
My name is Hong and I am a physiotherapist, fitness trainer and Master student in Health Education and Promotion.
I am passionate about almost anything health related and love to do sports such as marathon running and triathlons. As I am a curious person, I love to try out any kind of sports. One day, I discovered yoga and soon realized that it did not only had positive influences on my body, but also on my mind.
To learn more about it, I decided in 2016 to do a yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, which was an unforgettable, enriching experience.
Afterwards I have been teaching yoga at the Student Sport Center in Eindhoven and also use the gained knowledge in physiotherapy treatments.
I moved to Maastricht in 2019 and I'm grateful to join the Aruna-team at Aruna yoga Maastricht.
I enjoy to combine my knowledge from different fields and I’m always up to learn something new.
Teaching Yoga gives me great energy and I hope that my class will bring you joy as well. :)
Fifteen years ago I started doing yoga. I was not a great fan of sweating in the gym; in yoga I found the perfect balance between building power and flexibility, which gave me calmness and energy at the same time. Yoga is so much more than doing poses!
I went to Bali for a Vinyasa Teacher Training, accredited by Yoga Alliance. The teachers were from YogaUnion: Ourania Bouzouki (Greece) and Himanshu Bahuguna (India).
It was a great experience, and a spiritual journey to grow emotionally. It brought me closer to myself and also showed me the beauty of yoga philosophy.
What I value most in teaching yoga is to convey my passion for it to others. To let them experience yoga, how you can strengthen and relax your body and mind with regular practice.
Join my classes to experience the power of yoga!
Stephanie Temple, born in the Philippines and raised in Alaska, found yoga in 2011. Her classes combine two concepts- movement for the body and stillness for the mind.
After traveling through Southeast Asia for a year, she learned more deeply through Vipassana meditation how to incorporate midfullness into practice.
Stephanie aims to teach in a way that holds space for students to explore strength through vinyasa, restoration for the mind, and power of the breath.
